JANESVILLE/NEW GLARUS - Christian P. "Chris" Guldhaug, age 90, of Janesville passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. He was born in rural Blanchardville, WI on August 14, 1922 the son of Christian J. and Gjertina (Hegdahl) Guldhaug. Chris married Dorothy (Albrecht) Sherman on January 11, 1958. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2003. Chris was a resident of Janesville for sixty four years. Upon graduation from Blanchardville High School, he entered the U.S. Army in 1942. After basic training in the infantry, he was transferred to the Army Air Corps as a cadet. He spent eighteen months of Foreign Service in the China, Burma, and India Theater of operations. Chris was based at Army Air Corps Headquarters (Hastings Air Base) near Calcutta, India.

Following his military service he attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned a degree in agriculture. Chris was a life member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Janesville, Charter member of the Sons of Norway Lodge #544, life member of the University of Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association, the V.F.W., and a sixty year member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge. Chris retired from the General Motors Traffic and Scheduling department in 1980.

Chris is survived by a step-son Lon (Virginia) Sherman, a nephew Robert (Judy) Bauman, nieces Mary (Michael) Tuhus and Jane Vandervort, great-nephews Stuart, Forrest, and Justin, great-nieces Sarah (Loren), Johanna, Joylyn, Joyhanna, Joanna, and Kirsten, a special friend and caregiver Linda Fewell, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents, brother Harold Guldhaug, sisters Alice Guldhaug, Gertrude Hoesly, and Dorothy Bauman, a nephew Ronald Vandervort, a sister-in-law Violet Guldhaug, and brothers-in-law Kenneth Bauman and Alvin Hoesly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Ave., Janesville, WI with Pastor Naomi Garber officiating.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday, September 24, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in Janesville.

A graveside burial service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Old York Cemetery, near the intersection of Hwy 39 and Hwy 78, rural Blanchardville, WI.

Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Endowment Foundation, the Rock County Humane Society, Agrace HospiceCare Inc., or the charity of choice.
