Berneice T. Grunder, age 87 of Freeport, formerly of Monroe, died on January 6, 2011 at Freeport Rehabilitation & Health Care Freeport. She was born on March 9, 1923 in Wiota, the daughter of Vilas and Bertha (Roethlisberger) Thompson.

Berneice married William Grunder in March 1952.

She was a self employed day care provider and collected bears & enjoyed playing cards.

Berneice is survived by sons, Randy (Nancy) Grunder of Lena, IL; Terry Grunder of Freeport, IL; daughter-in-law Michele Grunder of Pecatonica, IL; grandchildren, Jamie, Heather, Joshua Grunder; Mike Gilbert, Bradley & Brandi Grunder, David Sigafus and 6 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, son, Steven; daughter , Florence Sigafus; brother, Vilas Jr. and sister Irene Wilde.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Ave. in Monroe, with Rev. David Busker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.

A visitation will be held 1 hr prior to service.
