Arlene E. Hagar, 87, of Beloit passed away peacefully with elegance and grace as she lived her life at her home on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Born to Henry and Emily Landwehr Schollmeyer on October 5, 1924 in Tiffany, WI. Arlene married the love of her life, Valentine B. Hagar on December 27, 1945 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. She was a 1940 graduate of Beloit High School and a graduate of Monroe Normal Teacher's College in Monroe, WI.

Arlene's 42 year teaching career included the Hart one-room school, several years at Shopiere Grade school concluding with her last 24 years at Turner Middle School when she retired. She inspired and challenged 100's of students over the years and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She enjoyed sewing, traveling with her husband, gardening, canning and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Beverly (James) Schmerse of Clinton, IA, Mary (Donald) Gier-Knorr of Winnebago, IL, Thomas (Sharel) Hagar of Lee's Summit, MO and James (Penny) Hagar of Surprise, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Laura (Gary) Keis, Rebecca (Mark) Dye, Tania (Rick) Shirley, Heather Jefko, Richard (Nickki) Gier, Christopher (Amy) Hagar, Jeffrey (Julie) Hagar, Troy (Jessica) Jastal, Jason (Anna) Jastal and Tyler Lambert; 12 great grandchildren, Samantha, Allison, Nicholas, Zachary, Alaina, Allen, AJ, Claire, Alexandra, Mya, Jacob and Jacob Paige; Brother, John (Elaine) Schollmeyer; three sisters, Donna (Joe) Ladwig-Ruprecht, Margaret (Karl) Splinter-Fentting and Jean (Dale) Olson-Bills; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Beloit Regional Hospice for their love, care and support.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, three sisters, Evelyn Zanzinger, Marion Pann and Leona Skogen and a brother Carl Schollmeyer.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI with Father Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery, Beloit, WI.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service in the church.

Memorials may be given in Arlene's name to the Alzheimer's Association or Diabetes Association.
