DARLINGTON - Agnes Bertha Gossner, age 104 of Darlington, WI, died on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Lafayette County Manor in Darlington, WI. Agnes Gossner was born on February 14, 1904 in Gossau, St. Gallen, Switzerland to August and Philomena (Hoegger) Gaehwiler. She attended cooking and serving school in St. Gallen. She was a sewing instructor and salesperson at Guetlingers in Chur. She sold sewing machines, milk separators, and motorcycles with free lessons on the sewing machine. Agnes married Ernest Gossner of Waldkirch, Switzerland in the Cathedral in St. Gallen on February 20, 1928 and came to the United States. They lived in Seymour Township in the Burke factory where Ernest made Swiss cheese. In 1933, they moved to Darlington where Ernest made cheese at the Darlington Cheese Factory. Agnes was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington and a past President of its Council of Catholic Women. She loved flowers and gardening and was a charter member and very active in the Darlington Garden Club for years, also serving as its President. She enjoyed playing cards with her Yass club friends.

She is survived by three daughters: Lillian (Steve) Fabian of Punta Gorda, Florida, Rita (Bill) Purcell of Darlington, and Edie (Lyn) Sheldon of Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Switzerland, Canada, and the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest, on June 17, 1988; and two sisters: Philomena Gaehwiler and Ida Roosli; and two granddaughters: Denise Purcell in 1965 and Mary Clare Yelk in 2006.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH in Darlington with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating.

Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m.
