Celebrating Our Past: Green County Historical Society

This photograph of Ben Sutherlands livery stable shows a winter scene like we havent had for some time. Henry E. Wells built this stable in 1900. It was worth about $3,000 at the time it was built. This building later housed many businesses, including the post office, the Monroe Evening Times, Banjo Petes Annex Cafe and Marcos Supper Club. The empty lot across the street is where the current post office was later built. Anyone with photographs that might be scanned and added to the historical societys collection or who have any questions about the collections at the museum may contact Matt Figi at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
