It's been another rain-soaked week on the 8th Street project, however crews continued to work nights removing pavement and placing new road base. Crews ran storm sewer across 8th Street and installed inlets while milling machines ran along the west end of the project.
The work scheduled for Friday night was canceled due to the afternoon's storm and more rain in the forecast. However, crews will pick up on Monday and continue removals and new base placement through 3rd Avenue. Lining crews will mobilize later next week and begin the process of lining the sanitary sewer. Lining of the sanitary sewer reduces the impact to the businesses as the sewer system will be reconstructed in about half the time of traditional methods.
We've been happy with the efficiency and safety of the nighttime work, therefore the contractor will continue with nighttime work next week. Eighth Street is scheduled to be closed Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., however side roads will continue to remain open to allow access to the local businesses.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Ken (Plowman) or myself. Thank you.
