NAMI plans events for Mental Illness Awareness Week Oct. 6-11

MONROE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness Green County will host Mental Illness Awareness Week with a series of events from Oct. 6 to 11. 

Planned events are as follows:

●  Oct. 6: NAMI Walks, a fundraising walk, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Olin Park in Madison. To donate or register to walk with Green County’s “Trevor’s Team,” visit tinyurl.com/NAMIGreenWalks.

●  Oct. 7: Window decorating contest with public viewing and judging from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Displays will be up all week. Mental Health First Aid training will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. held at the EMS building, 1800 12th St. To register for Mental Health First Aid, visit tinyurl.com/MHMGreenCo. Must purchase ticket ahead of time. Family skate night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Den, 1506 31st Ave., Monroe. 

●  Oct. 8: The grand opening of Green County’s new Mental Health Resource Center will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Green County Public Health and Human Services building, N3152 Wisconsin 81. Free hot dog or brat meal. Face painting, outdoor yard games, coloring and stress-ball making areas are planned.   

●  Oct. 9: A paint night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brodhead Public Library, 1207 25th St. Childcare for 12 and under is available. Free but pre-registration is required by visiting tinyurl.com/NAMIPaint.

●  Oct. 10: Mental health and trauma speaker Tamra Oman will be presenting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Monroe High School, 1600 26th St. This event is open to the public.

●  Oct. 11: A campfire and glow walk will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at New Glarus Woods, W5446 County NN. There will be a short walk through the trails and then a campfire. Personal stories will be shared and refreshments will be available.
