MONROE — Family Fun Day will meet at the Research Center, located on the lower level of the Monroe Public Library, on Friday afternoon from 1-3 p.m.
The topic of finding one’s way through basic terms used in owning real estate property will be explained by Green County Genealogical member, Evelyn Crooks. A hands on how-to will also be included on deciphering plat map descriptions in locating property.
Bring a laptop for hands on learning and individual help. Don’t have a laptop? There will be 3-4 desktop computers available for use.

Legion Post 197, Alter Metal Recycling team up for fundraiser
MONROE —Alter Metal Recycling is hosting a fundraising event for the benefit of American Legion Post 197.
Any individual or business can participate by bringing scrap metal for recycling to any Alter location and donating the proceeds to the American Legion Post 197 fundraising account.
Proceeds from the community’s scrap donations to the account made between April 1-30 this year will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Alter.
The community is invited to participate to not only benefit American Legion Post 197, but also benefit the environment through recycling. The account will remain available to receive scrap donations even after the matching fund campaign is complete.
Founded in 1898 and celebrating its 125-year anniversary, Alter Metal Recycling, a division of Alter Trading Corporation, is a fifth-generation company with metal recycling operations located throughout the Midwest. Alter Metal Recycling is located locally at N2193 Clarno Road Monroe, and is open to receive ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal every weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Albany Historic Society Museum to hold meeting, key presentation
ALBANY — On Tuesday April 18 the Albany Historical Society will hold its monthly general meeting. Following a brief business meeting at 7 p.m. a presentation will be made by Craig Barringer of the Madison based Action Safe Locksmiths.
Barringer will discuss the challenges of opening various types of safes and locks whose combinations or keys have been forgotten or lost for one reason or another.
As part of his presentation, Barringer will demonstrate safe opening techniques on a hundred year old Halls Safe & Lock Company safe that was donated to the museum by Albany resident Andy Oliver. The safe was once the personal safe of Bank of Albany president Ed Litel. Ed Litel is the father of John Litel, a 1911 graduate of Albany High School who went on to a successful stage, screen and television acting career.
The Albany Historical Society museum is located at 119 North Water Street in downtown Albany.

Artistic Touch Luncheon April 19
MONROE — An Artistic Touch Luncheon sponsored by the Monroe Art Market will beat noon on Wednesday, April 19 at the Hope Evangelical Free Church, 2902 13th St.
The guest speaker will be Sherry Miley of Carmel, Ind., a vivacious teacher with a unique heritage. Her story is one of learning to relinquish difficulties and experiencing joy.
