Wellnitz records fourth double-double

ARGYLE — With her fourth straight double-double of the season, Brooke Wellnitz helped Argyle-Pecatonica defeat Southwestern 73-28 on Dec. 9. The sophomore scored 21 points with 16 rebounds. She was just one assist away from a triple-double.

Kylie Butler and Loretta Tisch also scored in double figures with 29 and 12 points, respectively. The defense forced 27 turnovers, while the offense tallied 21 assists.

AP jumped two spots in the Division 4 WisSports.net Coaches Poll from No. 10 to No. 8 with a 5-0 record.


CAMBRIA-FRIESLAND 54, JUDA 51

CAMBRIA — The Panthers had a two-point lead at halftime, but the Hilltoppers came back to win in a nonconference game Dec. 9.

Ryleigh Brown led all scorers with 15 points, hitting four three-pointers. Anna Bartels also finished in double figures with 14 points. Phoenix Homan had two buckets beyond the arc in her eight-point total.


DARLINGTON 32, BLACK HAWK 30

DARLINGTON — Maddy Lange made a buzzer-beater, but it wasn’t enough for Black Hawk in a nonconference game Dec. 10. The Warriors had held the Redbirds to just three points in the first half, but Darlington outscored Black Hawk 25-15 in the second frame.

Sadie Goebel led the Redbirds with 13 points, followed by Maddie Gratz with eight. Gratz, Lilly Ritchie and Sydney Wiegel all grabbed five boards. 

Lange finished with 12 points for BH, and Hailey Wellnitz grabbed seven rebounds. 


JEFFERSON 55, MONROE 15

JEFFERSON —  The Cheesemakers put up just 33 shots in its Rock Valley Conference matchup Dec. 10, which was half as many as the Eagles attempted. A large factor in the discrepancy was 42 turnovers by Monroe compared to just 15 by Jefferson.

Coming off the bench, Holly Carpenter scored a team-best five points in seven minutes on the floor. Lauryn Quinn and Brinley Roidt crashed the boards with seven and six rebounds, respectively.


NEW GLARUS 60, LAKE MILLS 30

NEW GLARUS — A balanced offense helped the Knights defeat the L-Cats in a Capitol Conference crossover game Dec. 10. Eight different players scored, led by Kalia Malaise with 15. Ellie Brenkman also finished in double figures with 12 points.


BELLEVILLE 55, LAKESIDE LUTHERAN 39

BELLEVILLE — With just a three-point lead at halftime, the Wildcats pulled away from the Warriors in a Capitol Conference crossover game Dec. 10. The trio of Toria Devoe, Maddi DeSmet and Addison Edge led Belleville with 26, 17 and 16 points, respectively. 


In other local girls basketball, Brodhead fell to third-ranked Edgerton 71-48.
