Lafayette County youth participate in state fair

DARLINGTON - Nearly 60 youth from Lafayette County will participate in the 2010 Wisconsin State Fair, held in West Allis Thursday through Aug. 15. Lafayette County will have youth participating in the clothing delegation, dairy show, beef show, swine show, sheep show and the youth exhibit areas.

Participants in the youth exhibit area will include: Brook Knebel, Nicole Knebel and Katelyn Schobert of Belmont; Shauna Volkening, Mackenzie Boyle, LeeAnn Kurschner, Gabrielle Steiner, Ashley Martin, Tyler Lange, Tyson Miehe, Emma Berget, Julia Mau, and Meghan Douglas of Darlington; Brianna Leahy and Will Burgess of Shullsburg; Jared Johnson of Argyle; Morgan Nelson, Crystal Novak, Adam Moore and Chaesta Shager of Gratiot/South Wayne area. These youth have their exhibits on display from Wednesday through Aug. 15 in the Wisconsin Exposition Center. In addition, Hannah Kelly, Samantha Barnes and Rachel Rygh each had a single photograph selected as State Photo Display nominees. These photos will be judged this fall, and if selected as one of the top 10 in the state, will be part of a traveling display. All photos will be put on display at the 2011 Wisconsin State Fair.

Eighteen Lafayette County youth are among the state youth who will be exhibiting their dairy animals at Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Show Thursday through Sunday. The dairy exhibitors are Ashley Sullivan and Breana Dieter of Cuba City; Nick Hilby of Hazel Green; Cassidy Cox of Shullsburg; Logan Voigts of Belmont; Jeremy Calvert, Colton Carpenter, Carson Carpenter, Ashley Martin and Tyler Shager of Darlington; Jackie Dammen, Jeannie Dammen, Tracy Dammen, Brittany Ziller and Brandon Ziller of Argyle; and Leane Dammen, Adam Moore and Connor Moore of South Wayne/Gratiot area.

Emma Berget of Darlington will represent Lafayette County at the State Fair Clothing Revue Saturday through Monday. Berget and her outfit was selected as the State fair delegate at the Lafayette County Clothing Preview, held in early July.

Twenty-one youth from the county are competing in the beef, sheep, and swine shows at state fair, held Aug. 9-12. Youth that will exhibit beef include: Chelsey Schobert, Katelyn Schobert, Cameron Carey and Kaley Bockhop, Belmont; Emma Berget, Tyler Berget, Brett Jones, Bailey Jones, Mykel Wedig, Mitchell Wedig and Levi Wedig, Darlington; Brodie Abney, South Wayne; and Tayton Stolee, Argyle. Sheep exhibitors include Courtney Lobdell and Casey Lobdell of Darlington; Tierney Reilly and Calvin Reilly, Shullsburg; and Crystal and Collin Novak, Browntown.

Lafayette County swine exhibitors include: Emma Berget, Tyler Berget, Chloe Mosley, Colton Long and Wade Larson of Darlington; Brodie Abney of South Wayne; Cameron Carey, Belmont; Tayton Stolee, Argyle and Greg Leahy of Shullsburg.

Chaperones from Lafayette County included: Lisa Caya and Kyle Calvert, both of Darlington, for dairy; and Jeff Berget, South Wayne; and Lori Berget, Darlington, for beef, sheep and swine.
