GCHS to hold annual meeting
gchs Museum
The Green County Historical Society Museum is open in 2024 to the public all summer on weekend afternoons from 1-4 p.m. through Cheese Days weekend.

MONROE — The Green County Historical Society (GCHS) held its 2024 season grand opening on June 1 and will hold its Annual Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 18 at the museum. After the meeting, refreshments and a grand tour of the all new displays will be given by board members.

A speaker is scheduled to discuss the early life of Andrew Clarno and settling of Clarno. GCHS members are invited to hear the updates of the society and learn how they have been featuring many of the county’s prized possessions. They are continually taking in items relating to the county and accessioning them into their collection.  Memberships and donations enabled them to update and feature many items of interest.

This year they have developed a self-guided informational brochure for touring convenience. A docent can also elaborate on many smaller items in each period display.

GCHS has multiple upcoming events throughout the summer, such as presence at the Farmer’s Market, Bethel Schoolhouse presentation on June 15 at the museum, Airing of the Quilt display, participation in Main Street’s Art Walk, its fundraising breakfast at Moose Club, and the Annual Holiday Décor sale. They are also looking for volunteers that could partner with a board member to man these events. Visit gcwihs.org for more information.

The museum is handicap accessible on the first floor where many displays are available. The museum is open to the public all summer on weekend afternoons from 1-4 p.m. through Cheese Days weekend. Staff is also available at the museum Monday mornings. Visitors should park in the rear parking lot and enter through the rear gate.
