Students at Black Hawk High School learned recently about the dangers of smartphone use while driving during an “It Can Wait” event hosted by AT&T, AAA and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Trooper Chris Sukis of the Wisconsin State Patrol told the Black Hawk High School students that one distracted driving crashes occurs every 20 minutes in Wisconsin.
There were 119,000 distracted driving crashes last year with 450 of them resulting in deaths. He said the hardest part of his job when notifying family of a relative’s death. He added that it is both the driver and the passenger’s responsibility to stay safe while driving and not drive distracted.
