FREEPORT - City Coffee Co. and the Route 20 Chess Club present Friday Night Speed Chess Aug. 13 at City Coffee Co., 15 N. Chicago Ave.
The spectator-friendly event will comprise a six-round non-elimination tournament. Each player will be given five minutes to make all moves.
The entry fee is $3 ($2 for Route 20 Chess Club members), and first prize is $20.
On-site registration will be held from 7:30 to 8 p.m. The first round will begin at 8:30 p.m. Sets will be provided; players with clocks may bring them. Smoking is prohibited, and the site is wheelchair-accessible.
