On Monday, Jan. 5, Wisconsin's 99 state representatives and 33 senators were sworn in during the inauguration ceremonies. This event marks the beginning of my third term serving the residents of the 80th Assembly District. It is humbling to once again have the distinct honor to be your independent voice in the State Assembly over the next two years.
As you know, there are many important issues our state is facing, and the coming weeks and months will be a busy and challenging time. I am eager to continue working with both sides of the aisle to develop solutions to the challenges we face. It is my top priority to get our state back on track by fostering economic development and creating jobs, making health care more affordable for our residents, and ensuring we invest in our children's education.
In addition to the inauguration, committee assignments were given out by both leaders in the State Assembly. I'm excited about my new committee assignments and am eager to start working on the bills that will be referred to them for consideration. I will be serving on the following Assembly committees during the 2009-10 Session: Education, Rural Economic Development, Renewable Energy and Rural Affairs, and Financial Institutions. I especially look forward to my position as the ranking member on the Education Committee, and will continue to move ideas forward that will ensure Wisconsin students have an opportunity to flourish in a competitive, ever changing world.
I look forward to providing columns on a regular basis designed to keep you informed about what's happening in your state government. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. It is important to note that I have moved offices in the Capitol building and am now located in room 11 West near the State Street entrance. You can reach me by stopping by the office in person or by calling toll-free at (888) 534-0080, e-mailing at Rep.Davis@legis.wi.gov, or by writing to PO Box 8952, Madison, WI 53708.
