To the editor:

Last weekend's Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival goes into the record books as a success on all fronts - marked by ideal weather, excellent attendance, and an overall outstanding effort by a small group of volunteers. The event was sponsored and organized by Arc of Green County - an organization working to improve the lives of those with disabilities.

Nearly a dozen balloons launched and took to the skies over Green County on Friday evening, Saturday morning and again on Saturday evening. In addition, the pilots welcomed spectators to the infield at the Green County Fairgrounds for balloon glows both evenings.

Both locals and tourists were entertained by an outstanding lineup of blues bands that played over the two-day event. A popular beer stand featured local brews and other summer favorites. The Saturday car show featured nearly 100 classic automobiles. Of special interest to kids and families at the car show were the Wienermobile and the Nutmobile, along with mascot Mr. Peanut.

I would like to thank all the pilots and their support crews. I would also like to thank all the balloon sponsors who stepped forward to cover the costs of the balloon pilots.

On behalf of Arc of Green County, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who were involved in the planning and implementation of the event. The success of this event was due to the efforts of many volunteers pitching in and helping. It was quite gratifying to have this support in hosting such a wonderful event for the Monroe area.
