Justice Center sans sidewalks

MONROE A reader asked about the absence of sidewalks in front of the new Justice Center along the 6th street.

According to Monroe Mayor Ron Marsh, sidewalks installation near the Justice Center is an item that will be discussed between the county and the city engineering department, with no definite date set yet.

Because of the time of year with weather getting colder, Marsh said sidewalks will not be installed this year.

The reader believed the building, being in the City of Monroe city limits, needed an occupancy permit issued by the city, and required sidewalks before occupancy takes place.

The city had nothing to do with issuing permits for the Justice Center, said Mayor Marsh. Thats just the way it developed.

Because the building is a government unit, they could build the way it they wanted, Marsh added.
