Monroe baseball game suspended

BRODHEAD - The Monroe High School baseball team's game against Brodhead-Juda was suspended in the top of the eighth inning Monday with the game tied at 12.

Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said the game will resume when the Cardinals play at Monroe on May 2.

Monroe senior Garrett Gogin went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the first seven innings. Senior teammate Jaron Kuester went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Junior Hunter Weckerly also went 2-for-4.

The Cheesemakers committed nine errors Monday.

Brodhead-Juda junior Alex Nipple went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Skyler Stuckey went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Kuester started on the mound for the Cheesemakers and pitched three innings. He gave up three earned runs on one hit. He struck out five and walked five.

Monroe's Brad Ripp pitched 22⁄3 innings in relief and gave up just one earned run on five hits. He struck out one and walked one. Senior Taylor Meir was the third pitcher the Cheesemakers used. Meir pitched 11⁄3 shutout innings and struck out two before the game was suspended.

Stuckey pitched 51⁄3 innings and gave up six earned runs on six hits. He struck out six. Nipple tossed 12⁄3 innings and gave up three earned runs on three hits. He struck out one and walked one.
