JANESVILLE - Monroe senior Kennedy Ludwig netted a hat trick scoring three goals leading the Cheesemaker girls soccer team to a 4-0 season-opening win over Janesville Parker Monday.
"There was a lot of work from the entire team to put the ball in the mix for Kennedy and put the ball into some dangerous opportunities for us," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said.
Ludwig scored her first goal on an assist from sophomore Alexa Bader. She added her second goal on another pass from Bader to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead at the half.
"It was a good outing," Kasten said. "It was cold. They definitely handled it well."
Monroe senior Reily Pond scored a goal on an assist from senior Brynn Ritschard in the second half to extend the Cheesemakers' lead to 3-0. Ludwig scored her third goal on a pass from freshman Anika Einbeck.
"The girls have really been practicing on communication, teamwork and passing," Kasten said. "I think the girls are seeing the results of al of the hard work they put in during the training sessions."
A trio of Monroe players including senior Ally Einbeck, senior Morgan Seffrood and freshman Zoee Pond missed the game. Kasten said Seffrood missed the game due to an illness and Ally Einbeck and Zoee Pond missed the game due to previous commitments.
"I'm really excited that a lot of girls got into the game who have worked hard in practice and showed what they could do," Kasten said. "Surprisingly, depth is a strength for us. It's great for them and the team. In practice there will be a lot of competing against each other."
