Darlington-Black Hawk's Leif Bredeson to wrestle for D3 heavyweight title

The WIAA state wrestling tournament continued Friday, Feb. 22 with quarterfinals, semifinals and consolation wrestleback rounds.


Division 2

Monroe junior Bodie Minder lost in the 220-pound quarterfinals to Xavier's Mac Strand 9-6. Minder then pinned Prescott's Joe Schulte in the first leg of the wrestleback. Minder faces Saint Croix Central's Ryan Larson in the consolation semifinals Saturday morning

Sugar River's Daniel Enloe won his quarterfinal match in the heavyweight class. Enloe pinned Wisconsin Lutheran's Isaiah Hahm in just 53 seconds. Then in the semifinals, Enloe was pinned by Spencer/Columbus Catholic senior Logan Zschernitz, who is a perfect 45-0 this season. Enloe will face Omro's Mitchell Potratz in the consolation semifinals Saturday morning.

Brodhead-Juda senior Jackson Hauri lost his quarterfinal match 9-5 to Barren's Tristan Massie. Hauri then would pick up a 4-3 win over Ellsworth's Sawyer Hamilton in the consolation bracket. A consolation semifinal match against Grafton's Ellis Pfieger awaits Hauri Saturday morning.


Division 3

Darlington-Black Hawk senior Kolbe Ubersox lost his quarterfinal match to Cumberland's Reid Olson 13-5. Ubersox would then knock off Stratford's Jacob Heiden in the consolation bracket to guarantee himself a top-6 finish. Ubersox will face Pittsville's Beau Merritt in the consolation semifinals Saturday morning.

Leif Bredeson, a Darlington-Black Hawk junior, won his quarterfinal matchup by pin-fall in the first period over Winnebago Lutheran's Ryan Jacobs. Bredeson then defeated Coleman's Brock Martinson with another first-period pin to advance to the state championship. Bredeson will face Stratford's Dylan Schoenherr in the finals at 5 p.m. Saturday.
