BELLEVILLE — Sugar River celebrated Christmas early with a pair of dual wins in its home quadrangular on Thursday, Dec. 21. The Raiders defeated Verona 45-24 and Brodhead-Juda 51-21.

Prior to the competition, Dodgeville and Sugar River decided not to wrestle. The teams have met the last three weekends in the Badger State, Stoughton and Raider Invites.

“The win over Verona was a good challenge,” Sugar River head coach Peter Swenson said of the Division 1 opponent. “They are a young team with some talented wrestlers. Even though some of our guys did not win the match, they hung tough and only gave up a decision.”

Blake Endres (126), Ashlin Mihlbauer (138), Carson Loshaw (190), Garrett Pauli (215) and Zech Bair (113) picked up victories with pins, while Trei Udelhoven (175) won by a 3-1 decision.

Loshaw and Bair picked up another pin against Brodhead-Juda to go 2-0 on the day. Pauli also collected his second win with a 4-1 decision.

Although the Raiders did their part to defeat Brodhead-Juda by 30 points, 24 of those came from forfeit.

“The outcome was expected with Sugar River having a pretty much full and experienced squad that is very good top to bottom,” Brodhead-Juda head coach Chris Hoesly said. “I thought overall we wrestled them better than expected, but our mindset has to be a lot tougher against those upper echelon teams that we want to hang with.”

Joe Lohmar (150) and Emmitt Allen (285) were the only wrestlers to score points in the match that were not by forfeit. Lohmar recorded a 7-2 decision, while Allen pinned Isaac Erb in the second period.

Brodhead-Juda also suffered losses to Dodgeville (39-36) and Verona (63-12).

Lohmar was the only Cardinal to go 3-0 on the day, pinning Dodgeville’s Braydenn Husom and recording a 4-2 decision over Verona’s Jackson Guenzler-Soda. Allen was 2-1 with two pins, and Marcus McIntyre (144) was 2-1 with a pin and 8-5 decision.
