Panthers hand Pax keys to the program
Warren native is program’s third coach in 3 seasons

JUDA —The Panthers have struggled in recent years, and are hoping to turn the corner soon. Last winter Juda finished the season 0-14, and has a record of 5-51 over the past three seasons, which have come under two separate coaches. The program hasn’t had a winning season since 2016-17, and has posted a losing record in 13 of the last 19 campaigns.

Now a third coach in three years takes over, as Austin Pax was hired to direct the program moving forward.

“The team in all has had a rough go, having to learn different systems the past few years,” said Pax, a Warren native.

He understands that the system changes — and continued string of losing seasons — can wear on players and a program. However, he understands the makeup of his team and expects his roster to compete every game, regardless of who — or where — they are playing.

“We want to be a tough opponent every night, no matter the opponent we play,” Pax said. “We have a core group of young girls with a few upperclassmen ready to lead them.”

Back for the Panthers this winter are seniors Anna Skoumal, Jerzie Lerch and Katie Nusbaum. Junior guard Ciarrah Davis also returns, as do sophomores Briley Swedlund and Lavinia Rufer. Skoumal was an honorable mention pick last year alongside since-graduated Maddie Smith.

While the Panthers try to climb out of the Six Rivers East cellar, Pax sees Albany as the team to beat, while Black Hawk and Barneveld should be top contenders as well.
