Rock Valley releases volleyball all-conference
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals finished second in the Rock Valley this past fall behind McFarland. The league recently released its all-conference teams, and Brodhead had five players honored.
Middle hitter Abbie Dix, a junior, was selected not just as a first-team pick, but as the Rock Valley Player of the Year. She was joined on the first team by classmate Alexis Kammerer, a setter.
McKenna Young, also a junior, was a second-team selection for Brodhead as an outside hitter. Senior Madisyn Kail was honorable mention, as was sophomore Addison Yates.
Gustafsons named Six Rivers VB POY, COY
MONTICELLO — Ellie Gustafson of Monticello, was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year for this past season, and her mother, Rebecca Gustafson, was coach of the year.
The power-hitting junior gave opponents fits all season. Monticello went unbeaten in conference play and reached the state semifinals for the first time in program history.
Joining Gustafson on the first-team all-conference is was teammate Hannah Clark, Argyle’s Grace Ganshert and Maggie Godfrey, Pecatonica’s Lexi Peterson, Albany’s Brianna Dahl and Barneveld’s Zoe Schmitz.
Second-team all-conference selections include Albany’s Alana Durtschi, Argyle’s Breann Flannery, Barneveld’s Shelbi Marx, Black Hawk’s Tara Wellnitz, Juda’s Libby Jordan, Monticello’s Kelsy Grant and Pecatonica’s Tessa Green.
Alyssa Lange, Raylin Peterson and Tatum Baumgartner of Black Hawk were honorable mention. Pecatonica’s Gracie Gordon and Siri Thronson were also honorable mention, as were Albany’s Payton Firth, Argyle’s Victoria Lantz, Juda’s Morgan Schneeberger, Monticello’s Katelyn Eyler and Macey Grant, and Barneveld’s Elle Pechan and Mya Baker.
WFCA announces all-state football teams
MONROE — Several area football players received all-state nods in football for their efforts this past season.
Monroe had three players selected in total: JT Seagreaves, senior DE was a first-team pick, while Keatin Sweeney, junior RB, and Isaac Bunker, junior OL, were honorable mention.
Brodhead-Juda also had three players picked: Colton Buttke, senior OL, and Gage Boegli, senior RB, were first-team picks, while Austin Moe, junior DL, was honorable mention.
Darlington’s Max McGuire, a junior OL, was an honorable mention selection.
