MADISON — The Rock County Fury lost a tight game Dec. 10 against the Cap City Cougars, 2-0.
The Cougars (5-3, 2-0 Badger) took a 1-0 lead with just 30 seconds left in the first period, grabbing momentum just before the first intermission. In the second stanza, neither team scored, though the Cougars had three penalty kills.
In the third period, Brooke Ayres of Cap City hit the penalty box for a 2-minute roughing penalty. Moments later, with under six minutes to play in regulation, Keegan Sanderfoot scored a shorthanded goal to put the Fury behind 2-0.
Olivia Cronin had 27 saves in net for the Fury (4-3-1, 2-1), which were out-shot by the Cougars 27-15.
Monroe boys co-op twice dropped 8-1
MONROE — The Cheesemakers boys co-op hockey team dropped back-to-back games by scores of 8-1. On Dec. 9, Reedsburg-Wis. Dells came into SLICE and toppled Monroe, and two days later the Cheesemakers suffered a road loss against Muskego in Milwaukee.
RWD took a 4-0 lead in the first period, and made it 7-0 by the second intermission. Wyatt Janecke broke the goose egg for Monroe, scoring off assists from Kyle Theorin and Josh Haight less than two minutes into the third.
RWD’s Caden Brandt had a hat trick and an assist, while Clayton Pfaff added two goals and three assists. RWD out-shot Monroe 34-22. Theorin had 26 saves in net for the Cheesemakers.
Two days later against the Muskego Ice Force, Monroe’s Nolan Bodenstein scored the game’s first goal unassisted 6:44 after the first puck dropped. Muskego then scored three goals in the first, including the final one with a second left in the period. The hosts then added four goals in the second, including a short-handed goal and two power play scores. Muskego’s final goal came midway through the third on a power play.
Muskego out-shot Monroe 28-24. Xander Obert had 20 saves in net for the Cheesemakers.
