MONROE — The Cheesemakers capped its Badger West slate with a 7-0 sweep of Sauk Prairie for Senior Night May 10. Monroe finished 4-2 in league duals, good enough for third place.

“Tonight was a nice win for us and a good chance to celebrate our seniors,” said Matt Bordner, Monroe’s coach. “The seniors on this team have contributed quite a bit to our program’s success this year and growth over the past few years. I give a lot of credit to our players for having passion for the game and working hard to get better. It was nice to see that work pay off tonight against a young Sauk Prairie team.”

Sauk Prairie forfeited the No. 4 singles match, as they were short a player. Matthew Setterstrom won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, with Ryan Mathiason sweeping No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Gavin Eckerman taking care of business at 3-singles, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles action, Chris Giasson and Aaron Roidt won in the top flight, 6-0, 6-2. Ethan Towne and West Saunders blanked their opponents at 2-singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Tim Olson and Dante Giordano, an Italian exchange student, won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

“Next week we added a triangular against East Troy and Burlington which should be very competitive. East Troy is slotted in at No. 5 in state for Division 2 and will be a great opponent. We then see Edgerton on Tuesday which will have implications for subsectional play,” Bordner said. “As we get to the conference tournament, it would be great to see if we can improve our spot and maybe have a shot to move up. We will need some good practices over the next few days.”
