Cheesemakers lose first two games of fall

WHITEWATER — Monroe’s boys soccer team went seven games into the season before suffering their first defeat, which came Sept. 19 at Whitewater, 2-1. 

The Whippets improved to 4-3-1 in the Rock Valley Conference, and sit two points behind league leader Evansville. Monroe slipped to 1-1 in the RVC, a full 3-points (one win) off Evansville.

Two days after their first loss, the Cheesemakers fell to Roncalli 2-0 in a nonconference game. Both goals by the Jets (7-3-1) came in the second half.

In other boys soccer action, Sugar River (5-2-2) fell to playoff rival McFarland 1-0 on Sept. 19 in a nonconference game. Last season the Raiders defeated the Spartans in the sectional semifinal en route to the WIAA Division 3 state championship. This time around, the Spartans (7-1-1) scored in the 10th minute for the game’s lone goal.
