Argyle clears Juda; Monroe fends off MG

MONONA — The Cheesemakers (4-0, 3-0 Badger) held off Monona Grove (2-2, 1-2) Dec. 7, winning 59-54 in boys basketball.

Senior JT Seagreaves had 27 points for Monroe in the win, knocking down three, 3-point shots and finishing 4 of 6 at the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds. Senior Carson Leuzinger added three 3s, 21 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Cheesemakers. Seagreaves is averaging 23.3 points per game, while Leuzinger averages 22.0.

James Seagreaves finished with nine rebounds and four points and George Brukwicki had five points and four assists. As a team, the Cheesemakers had five steals, four blocks and committed just seven turnovers.

Monroe is ranked seventh in Division 2 in the latest Wisconsin Basketball Coaches poll. The Cheesemakers are at No. 3-ranked DeForest (3-0, 3-0) Dec. 13 before hosting Fort Atkinson (1-3, 1-2) Dec. 16.


Argyle 31, Juda 22

JUDA — The Orioles defense held the Panthers to just seven baskets in a Six Rivers East game Dec. 7. Juda hit five 2-point shots, two 3s and finished just 6 of 15 from the free throw line.

Aaron Makos led Juda with 12 points, while Mason Kammerer had six. Willie Helfvogt led Argyle with 10 points, all of which came in the first half. Max Godfrey had nine points for the Orioles, which finished 10 of 16 from the charity stripe and made just nine baskets — six 2s and two 3s.


Darlington 63, Belleville 61

BELLEVILLE — The Redbirds fell behind by seven points at halftime, only to rally over the final 18 minutes to grab a win over a solid Wildcats squad.

Darlington’s lineup spread out the scoring, with four players reaching double figures. Carver Fitzsimons had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Easton Evenstad tallied 17 points, four assists and eight boards. Hunter Hardyman finished with 14 points and six rebounds, and Brady Long added 11 points. 


Dodgeville 59, New Glarus 51

DODGEVILLE — The Glarner Knights went into halftime tied with the Dodgers at 25 on Dec. 6. In the second half, the home team outscored New Glarus 34-36 to walk away with the nonconference victory.

Dillon Garthwaite had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Dodgeville, while teammate Matthew Pittz drained four 3s and finished with 20 points. 

AC Strok led all scorers for New Glarus with 21 points. Dain Walter added 12 and Carter Siegenthaler tallied eight points.

In other area boys basketball games, Johnson Creek defeated Albany 72-50. On Dec. 7, Monticello beat Albany 80-50 and Black Hawk knocked off Pecatonica 52-43.
