Cardinals' 3,200 relay sets record

CLINTON - The Brodhead-Juda girls 3,200-meter relay team won a championship and set a meet record at the Clinton Relays on Saturday.

The Cardinals' 3,200 relay team of sophomore Cora Purdue, senior Cameron Novy, senior Amber Pickel and senior Taylor Bluemel finished first in a meet record time of 9 minutes, 59.3 seconds. The time was about 28 seconds faster than runner-up Jefferson.

Jefferson racked up 92 points to edge Brodhead-Juda (83) for the Clinton Relays team title.

Bluemel teamed with Novy, Purdue and Nicole Kamholz to win the 6,400 relay (23:35.3).

The Cardinals' 1,600 relay team of Purdue, Pickel, Novy and sophomore Maddie Harding won the race with a time of 4:21.6, which was about two seconds ahead of Big Foot.

Pickel and Harding teamed with Abby Johnson and Morgan Tresemer to take second in the 800 relay (1:55.3). The Cardinals' 1,600 medley relay team of Tresemer, Johnson, Harding and Bluemel took second (4:35.2).

Brodhead-Juda's Sage Harper, Blake Boegeli and Mackenzie Harnasch helped the Cardinals take second in the discus with a combined distance of 272 feet. The Cardinals' team of Harding, Katie Flory and Miranda Klitzman finished second in the high jump with a combined height of 13-5.
