BRODHEAD - The Brodhead girls basketball team kept their perfect season intact, with a 64-39 conference win over McFarland Thursday night.
Brodhead scored 17 in the first quarter and 19 in the second to take a 36-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half was a bit closer, as the Cardinals only outscored the Spartans by five in the final two quarters.
"We got to the basket and finished some layups, which we haven't done a great deal of this season," Brodhead coach Brad Pickett said. "We spaced the floor pretty well. The nice thing tonight was that once we got to the rim, we finished."
Rachel Heller led the Cardinals with 15 points. Taylor Douglas was the next leading scorer with nine points.
"We had good balance," Pickett said. "I thought Rachel Heller did a nice job of really getting to the basket, which is one of the things we emphasize."
Brodhead, ranked second in Division 3, is now 16-0 overall and 11-0 in the Rock Valley South Conference. Although they have yet to lose, Pickett said that the focus of his team remains on securing a conference title.
"Our goal at the beginning of the year was to win a conference title. Obviously, we're starting to get closer to achieving that," Pickett said. "Hopefully we can take care of business and get there in the next week. Then we can readjust our goals."
