June Marie Augsburg, age 83, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. She was born in Chicago, IL, on February 5, 1940, the daughter of Mabel Procunier.  June began her journey of lifelong learning in a high school near Chicago and pursued a Teaching Degree at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.  June married Ronald Augsburg on July 29, 1999, at the MAC Center in Monroe.

She played a significant role as a latch-key teacher in Freeport for over a decade as well as managing the Humane Society in the Freeport and surrounding area for many years. Later, she beautifully intertwined her love for dogs and compassion for individuals by initiating a dog hospice, a unique endeavor that brought comfort to numerous patients in hospitals through therapeutic visits by her dogs.

June is survived by her husband, Ronald; sons, Kevin (Mary) Blackmore and Robert Blackmore; grandchildren, Cedric, Morgan, Kiza, and Nea; stepchildren, Sherry Booth, Jackie (Dean) Ludkey, Judy Pickett, James (Laurie) Augsburg, Susan (Tom) Florer, and Barbara (Kirk) Jenson; and numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her twin sister, Janice Nelson, and sister, Bonnie (Dan) Buskol.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first two husbands, Keith and Frank; sister, Ruth Ann; and daughter-in-law, Sue Blackmore.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:30 AM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home.
