Alan "Gene" Eugene Wilson, age 77, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Gene was born on September 19, 1945 in Dodgeville, WI, the son of Lecil and Pauliene Wilson. He attended Gratiot School. Gene proudly served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Fort Knox, KY. He was united in marriage to Irmgard “Emmy” on April 1, 1967.
Gene spent his life as a farmer in South Wayne, retiring in 2009. He took pride in farming alongside his son Robbie. He later worked at the Green County Fair Grounds. From playing as the pitcher in his high school baseball team to cheering for the Brewers, Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers, he loved sports. His other interests included fishing, hunting, trapping, and playing cards. Gene loved gardening and tending to his flowers. He especially enjoyed canning with his granddaughter, Alicia, or simply enjoying time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also loved country music and dancing. He made many treasured memories with his wonderful neighbors, Gary and Deb Johnson.
Gene is survived by his wife, Emmy; children, Robbie (Shelby) Wilson of Brodhead, Mike (Erika) Wilson of Brodhead, and Kellie (Dennis) Wilde of Monroe; as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, Eldon (Kitty) Wilson, Kenneth (Pauline) Wilson, David (Liz) Wilson, and Steve (Beth) Wilson; sisters, Carol Ruef and Anne (Fred) Bauman; sister-in-law, Marne Wilson; and dear friends, Darlene and the late Don Brooker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Wilson, and Wayne Wilson; and sisters, Rochelle Backer, and Darlene Graham.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held on September 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
