Still time to register for youth classes

MONROE - The City of Monroe Recreation Department has openings in several classes for youth.

Young Rembrandts Drawing started Thursday, Nov. 1. Elementary drawing and cartooning class will be held on Thursdays. The drawing class is from 4 to 5 p.m. and cartooning is from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The session continues through Dec. 6. The drawing class costs $40 and cartooning costs is $42. The projects will be different from the other classes taught in the previous sessions.

Soccer open gym starts Thursday, Nov. 8. Soccer open gym will have skills, drills and playing games. The program is for middle school and high school students. Classes are from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 8 through March 7 at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy. The cost is $10 and the league is supervised by Al Kaiser.

The next dance classes will be taught by Kathryn Zastrow on Mondays at the Park and Recreation Department. It starts Feb. 11 and continues through March 28. Class size is limited to 12 dancers. No classes will be held on March 11.

Ballet Blitz I for 3- and 4-year-olds will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Ballet Blitz II for 5- through 9-year-olds will be held from 6:05 to 6:35 p.m. Ballet and Jazz Combo for 5- through 8-year-olds will be held from 6:40 to 7:10 p.m. The pop class for 7- to 9-year-olds will be held from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. Classes are taught at the Monroe Park and Recreation office, 1110 18th Ave. The cost is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
