MONROE - Green County has a duplex it wants to move.
The duplex, located at N3150 Wisconsin 81, is located next to the Pleasant View Nursing Home and was formally used by the nursing home director.
The county doesn't care if someone offers $1 or $1,000 for the building, as long as the person who buys it moves the building from the site. Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said the county doesn't really anticipate anyone paying for the duplex. The main thing is to get rid of it, he said.
The Pleasant View Nursing Home Committee, which oversees the nursing home, decided at its March 11 meeting to offer the building to anyone interested.
Committee Chairman Herb Hanson said estimates to repair the duplex came in between $100,000 and $120,000. He said there are problems with the furnace, the plumbing and floors. Doyle said there is mold in the bathroom.
Doyle said the duplex would need "significant remodeling."
The committee decided it wasn't going to spend money approved by county residents in the October referendum to exceed revenue limits to assist the nursing home's financial deficit to repair the duplex, Hanson said.
"We decided we weren't going to be landlords," Hanson said.
The deadline for offers to remove the house is April 9.
If no one makes an offer, the county will turn the duplex over to the Green County Sheriff's Department or local fire departments to be used for training, Doyle said.
Anyone interested in purchasing the duplex or moving it from its present location can contact the Green County Clerk's office at 328-9430.
