Outdoor pot grow nets busts near Belleville

MONROE — The Green County Sheriff’s Office has made three arrests related to their investigation of an outdoor marijuana growing operation in rural Belleville south of town.

“On August 23, 2024 Green County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an outdoor marijuana grow at a rural residential property in the N7900 block of County Hwy CC, approximately 4 miles south of the Village of Belleville,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Green County deputies and detectives furthered the investigation and determined there was a significant outdoor, cultivated marijuana grow near the residence.”

Detectives executed a search warrant of the property on Sept. 4, police said. The search warrant, police added, was executed with the assistance of tactical teams from Green County Sheriff Tactical Response Team, Monroe Police Emergency Response Team and Lafayette County Sheriff Emergency Response Team.  

“As a result of the search warrant and investigation detectives seized 411 marijuana plants...” the statement said.

Those arrested include, Bradley D. Zweifel 50, of rural Belleville, who was charged with Manufacturing Tetrahydrocannabinols (More than 200 plants) — Party to a Crime; Kayla D. Chappel 28, of rural Belleville, who also charged with Manufacturing Tetrahydrocannabinols (More than 200 plants) — Party to a Crime; and Michael J. Scott 40, of Belleville, for a charge of Bail Jumping.
