MONROE - Monroe Main Street and Barb Nelson, the group's executive director, announced Wednesday that Nelson will end her term July 3.

She began her work with Main Street Jan. 1, 2007.

Main Street will now begin the process of locating a replacement executive director, according to a press release Wednesday.

In a telephone interview Wednesday, Nelson said she was "satisfied with the director's search to take the program further."

Board President Dr. David Riese praised Barb's work, noting that during her tenure two major projects were completed.

"Monroe Main Street has accomplished a great deal since its inception in 2005," he said Wednesday in a press release. "In recent years, Barb helped Main Street put the facade grant program in place, and was part of the major streetscape project constructed in 2009. She coordinated our relationship with the state Main Street organization, and was instrumental in having several local program participants and businesses honored by the state. Numerous festivals and Square-based activities were part of her accomplishments, also. We wish her well in her future endeavors."

Nelson said she will be taking a break.

"I am contemplating weeding my garden," she said.
