MONROE — The School District of Monroe announced that the Monroe High School Class of 2027 graduation ceremony has been rescheduled from Friday, May 28, 2027, to Friday, May 21, 2027, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The decision follows a scheduling conflict created by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), which recently moved the WIAA Sectional Track and Field Meet to Friday, May 28, the same evening as Monroe High School’s previously scheduled graduation ceremony.

Monroe High School, along with several other affected schools, contacted the WIAA to express concerns and request reconsideration of the sectional meet date. Following discussions in early October, the WIAA elected to maintain the May 28 date but offered host schools flexibility to adjust their meet start times.

Monroe High School subsequently requested that Prairie du Chien High School, the host of its sectional meet, move the competition to an earlier start time of 11 a.m. This adjustment would have potentially allowed Monroe’s qualifying senior athletes to participate in both the sectional competition and their graduation ceremony. Unfortunately, Prairie du Chien was unable to accommodate the request due to staffing limitations and will maintain the originally scheduled 4 p.m. start time.

After considering the available options, Monroe High School administration determined that moving graduation to May 21 would provide the best opportunity for all graduating seniors, including student-athletes, to participate in this important milestone.

“We recognize that changing the graduation date may create scheduling challenges for some families, particularly those who have already made travel or celebration arrangements,” said Monroe High School Principal Jeriamy Jackson. “This was not a decision we made lightly. Our priority is to ensure that every member of the Class of 2027 has the opportunity to participate in their graduation ceremony. By communicating this change well in advance, we hope families will have sufficient time to adjust their plans.”

The School District of Monroe appreciates the understanding and flexibility of students, families, and community members as we work to make graduation a memorable and inclusive celebration for the entire Class of 2027.

Additional details regarding the graduation ceremony will be communicated to students and families as the event approaches.
