DARLINGTON - Catherine Krentz resigned Thursday, Nov. 15 as administrator of Lafayette Manor, two and a half months after she was put on paid leave.

The committee that oversees the county-run nursing home accepted her resignation during its monthly meeting Thursday evening, according to chair David Halloran.

"I guess we're not really surprised by her resignation, but I don't think we really expected it at this time," Halloran said.

The nursing home committee put Krentz on administrative leave Sept. 1, pending state investigations into health violations at the troubled nursing home and also a complaint filed by a former employee with the Department of Workforce Development.

"We just wanted to make sure we had all our bases covered," Halloran said.

Lafayette County continued to pay Krentz during her leave. Krentz earned $14,839.20 from her salary since Sept. 1, according Sandy Russell, county payroll accountant.

Krentz isn't yet totally free of her association with Lafayette Manor. She has a sentencing hearing next week in Lafayette County Circuit Court on a charge that she campaigned for a political ally while on the clock and through her work email. She pleaded not guilty to the charge in September.

The employee complaint filed with the state is also still pending, Halloran said, adding that his committee isn't involved in the investigation or resolution of that complaint.

The Manor remains on a federal watch list for having "a history of serious quality issues," but since September has resolved compliance issues with the state. Last month state investigators deemed the facility back in compliance and allowed it to once again admit new Medicare and Medicaid patients.

Interim administrator Sherry Kudronowicz, who worked to bring the Manor back in compliance in recent months, confirmed Friday she is retiring at the end of December. She said she has some personal issues in her life that require her undivided energy and focus.

Applications for her position are being accepted until Monday, Nov. 19. At a meeting last month, the county decided to combine the administrator positions at the Manor and Memorial Hospital, and that change remains in effect.
