MONROE - Every year people look forward to barbershop music and terrific harmonies and the Green County Harmony Chorus always delivers.
This year the group presents its 47th annual show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Monroe High School's Performing Arts Center.
The Green County Harmony Chorus began in 1962 and is known throughout the area. It regularly performs at churches during the summer and has built up a large following in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
The group sings a variety of old-time favorites, as well as patriotic, gospel and love songs.
The chorus is made up of 30 men from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Some of the performers, Wally Speich, Gaylord Swenson, Gaylord Voegeli and Emerson Wells have been with the group for more than 40 years.
In addition to the Green County chorus group, three other groups will take the stage Saturday.
The featured quartet is "Jurassic Larks" from Des Moines, Iowa. The group is a winner of the Central States District Seniors Quartet Championship and the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Seniors Quartet Championship.
Also on the bill for the night is "Geneva," from Lake Geneva and "Take Note," from Chicago. Both quartets are also award winners.
Immediately following the two-hour performance at the high school, singers and friends can attend the Afterglow party at St. Victor School. All the groups will sing and refreshments will be served.
The Afterglow party attracts many people who want to hear the groups perform informally.
Tickets for Saturday's performance are $9 for the show and $6 for the After Glow party. Tickets are available at Ruf Confectionery or from any chorus member. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the night of the show. More information is available by calling 325-5414.
