MONROE - A commemorative Sports Illustrated edition that features the career of Green Bay Packers' quarterback Brett Favre hit the newsstands Monday and has been a popular items for local fans.
Cheri Wells, assistant manager at Dick's Piggly Wiggly in Monroe said the store received 400 magazines and had only 30 left by this morning.
"They're going quick," Wells laughed.
Jesse Zuelke, a manager at Monroe's Pick 'n Save, said the store received 800 copies Sunday night. The store still has "quite a few" magazines left but Zuelke said a lot of them have been sold.
Kathie Lindsay, a manager at ShopKo in Monroe, said the store had to limit customers to five magazines each to make sure there were enough to go around.
About 850,000 commemorative copies were printed and are being sold for $7.99.
The magazine features a photo essay, photos chronicling each of Favre's seasons in Green Bay and a tribute from players and fans.
This is the third time since December the magazine has featured the future Hall of Fame quarterback on its cover. The other two were weekly editions that required extra printing because of their popularity. One of the magazines featured Favre as Sportsman of the Year and the other featured a picture of him from the Packers' playoff win against Seattle.
Favre has appeared on the Sports Illustrated cover eight times during his 17-year football career. Favre retired from football last week after 16 seasons with the Packers.
