Driver fails to yield, collides with motorcyclist

MOUNT PLEASANT — A motorcyclist was taken to UW Hospital just before 5 p.m. Tuesday after a driver failed to yield to traffic in the Town of Mount Pleasant.

According to information released by the Green County Sheriff’s Office, Delores M. Bernet, 83, Monticello, was driving eastbound on County C when she failed to yield to the right-of-way of a motorcycle heading northbound on Wisconsin 69. 

The motorcyclist, Casey C. Severson, 22, New Glarus, attempted to avoid the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The bike slammed into the passenger side of Bernet’s vehicle. Severson, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken via New Glarus EMS to UW Hospital in Madison for injuries sustained in the crash. The motorcycle was towed from the scene due to severe damage. 

Bernet was unharmed, but the vehicle sustained passenger side damage. It was driven from the scene. Authorities cited Bernet for failing to yield. She was released pending a court appearance. 

Monticello Fire Department assisted at the scene.
