William C. Grinnell, age 82 of Monroe, died on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Monroe Manor. Bill was born April 20, 1926 in Monroe, the son of Albert and Cora (McCool) Grinnell. He was proud to be a veteran of the United States Marines. Bill served in World War II helping raise the flag at Hiroshima. Following his honorable discharge, Bill worked for the City of Monroe for 20 years before moving to Louisiana. He returned to Monroe in 2006 to live with his sister.
He is survived by two sons and two step-sons; his sister, Jacqueline Kirichkow of Monroe; two brothers, Russell Grinnell and Nathan Gene (Sandy) Grinnell, both of Monroe. He is further survived by two special girls he loved, Haley Jinkerson and Krystal Phillips; special friends, Lisa Haring of Monroe and James (Marlene) Foreman of Louisiana; and many other friends and relatives.
Military graveside services will be held at a later date in Bethel-Hawthorne Cemetery, Clarno Township. The Newcomer Funeral Home is assisting the family.
