Monroe Police

MONROE - Patricia L. Manuel, 60, Camby, Ind., was uninjured in a two-vehicle accident Friday at 6th Avenue and the Wisconsin 11 on-ramp. Manuel was cited at 8:15 a.m. for following too closely after her vehicle hit a vehicle being driven by an 80-year-old woman from Monroe.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Friday:

• Ronald E. Coppes, 63, Monroe, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash in the W4900 block County KK, Sylvester Township, at 4:52 a.m. Coppes reported to deputies he was eastbound when he crested a hill and collided with a large pile of brush in the roadway. The vehicle sustained minor damage and Coppes was able to drive the vehicle from the scene after cutting the branches from underneath the vehicle. It appears that a vehicle lost its load of cut branches and brush prior to Coppes's vehicle hitting the brush pile.

• Brodhead police officer Nicholas J. Bartels, 34, Brodhead, was backing a squad car out of a driveway and hit a utility pole on the terrace of West 3rd Avenue at 2:04 p.m. Bartels was uninjured and the squad sustained moderate damage but was driven from the scene.

• Vernon W. Harris, 61, New Glarus, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a one-vehicle rollover crash in the W6600 block of Wis. 39, New Glarus Township, at 2:35 p.m. Harris was westbound and attempting to pass another vehicle when the front end of his vehicle got next to the other vehicle, and the lead vehicle shifted left of center. Harris told deputies he then swerved to avoid a collision and his vehicle hit the south gravel shoulder. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled onto its roof. Harris was injured but declined EMS transport. The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene.

• Jordan M. Gilberston, 22, Monroe, was uninjured in a deer vs. vehicle crash on Wis. 11, east of Smock Valley Road, Monroe Township, at 8:36 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.

• Shawn R. Carpenter, 17, Monroe, was uninjured in a one-vehicle accident on Wis. 59 and County DR, Monroe Township. Carpenter was attempting to turn westbound onto County DR when he lost control of his vehicle and entered the south ditch. The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene. Carpenter was cited at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, for a graduated driver's license violation, failure to notify law enforcement of an accident and failure to maintain control of a vehicle. Robert E. Carpenter, 59, Monroe, was cited for obstruction for not reporting to the sheriff's department that he was driving when the accident occurred.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - Kevin W. Sparks, 46, Romeoville, Ill., was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash on Wis. 81, Seymour Township, at 8:45 p.m. Friday. Sparks was eastbound when his vehicle drove across the center line onto the shoulder and hit a guardrail. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.
