Robert D. "Bob" King, age 86, of Shullsburg, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013, of natural causes at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. He was born February 7, 1927 at the family farm in Apple River, IL, the son of Ilo and Eliza (Black) King. He married Helen Longhorn on September 15, 1949. She passed away January 2, 1977. He then married Fern Solberg March on August 10, 1979. Bob farmed his entire life spending 63 years in Shullsburg, on the family farm, until the time of his death. He served on the Shullsburg Fire District Board for 33 years, the Evergreen Cemetery Board for approximately 30 years, and 25 years as a Hughes Seed Corn salesman. He especially enjoyed his bowling years, watching his Green Bay Packers, playing cards with family, and also card playing with friends at the senior center, with an estimated one million games of euchre played over his lifetime. Some would say he was a better winner than loser. Bob's greatest joy was spending time with family. They were always his highest priority.

He is survived by his wife: Fern of Shullsburg; children Allen (Jean) King of Shullsburg, LaVonne King of Billings, MT, Sandra (Mike) Goffinet of New Lenox, IL, Peggy (Rick) Herbst of Shullsburg, Steven (Carla) King of Great Falls, MT, Kenneth (Mary Pat) King of Glenwood, IA, Brenda (Mike) Greenfield of Bozeman, MT, Pauline (Jerry) Ames of Fennimore, WI; step-children: Darrell (Edith) March of Stoughton, WI, Wes (Deb) March of Oregon, WI, Jim(Connie) March of Dodgeville, WI, Roy (Cindy) March of Dodgeville, WI, Pam March of Lincoln, NE, Craig (Linda) March of Albuquerque, NM; 35 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers: Jim King and John (JoAnn) Weiskircher both of Shullsburg; sisters-in-law: Lois (Larson) Ubersox of Gratiot, WI, and Donna (King) Coad, Apple River, IL; step-sisters-in-law: Violet Brown of Whitewood, SD, Jeanette (Mick) Darrow of Raleigh, NC, and Jean (Maynard) Swenson of Hollandale, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; step-father: Ernie Weiskircher; and his brother: Howard King.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 226 West Church Street in Shullsburg with Rev. Jeffrey A. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Friday, December 20, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, 235 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg.
