MONROE - Nevin L. Beckman, age 88, of Monroe, formerly of Oneco, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, WI, with his family by his side. He was born on April 7, 1927 in Monroe, WI, the son of Elmer and Vernita (Smith) Beckman. He was married to JoAnn Krell. She passed away on October 14, 2009.
Nevin led an interesting life before his health prevented it. He served two years in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII, serving as a radio operator. Following his military service, he trained to be a radio repairman and ultimately opened his own shop as a Zenith TV sales/service in Oneco, IL. He also learned to fly at the Monroe airport and held a civilian pilot license for some time. His other interests included photography, drawing and raising German Shepherds. Nevin was also a member of the Smith Masonic Lodge #31 of Monroe.
He is survived by his nieces; Denise (Richard) Ford, Smyrna, GA, Vicki (Nate) Phillipps, Deb (Gary) Johnson, both of Monroe, Karen (Robert) Pohlman, Curtiss, WI; and a nephew, John (Janet Winters) Beckman, Adams Friendship, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and sister-in-law, Owen (Joan) Beckman, and a brother in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church, Freeport, IL with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport, IL.
