Miller sentenced to nine years for sex assault

MONROE - The court Monday sentenced a Belleville man to nine years in prison and seven years extended supervision after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

John M. Miller, 34, pleaded guilty Feb. 27 to second-degree sexual assault of a child, a class C felony. He faced up to 40 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement.

The court dismissed one count of repeated sexual assault of a child, a class B felony.

He faced up to 100 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.

Court records indicate he had sexual contact with a child Dec. 1 in Monticello.

In a second case, he was sentenced to 167 days in jail with three days credit after he pleaded guilty to intimidation of a witness.

He faced up to nine months in jail and up to $10,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class A misdemeanor.

The court dismissed one count of intimidation of a victim, a class G felony, and bail jumping, a class H felony. He originally faced more than 16 years in prison and up to $45,000 in fines.

Court records indicate he threatened a woman if she testified against him in court.
