Mildred M. Wyssbrod age 94 of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI. Mildred was very self-sufficient and able to live at her home in Shullsburg until November 1, 2010. She was born May 4, 1916 in Cadiz Township in Green County, WI, the daughter of William and Mary (Bartelt) Kuhl. Mildred graduated from Winslow High School in Winslow, IL, in 1934. She grew up in Martintown, WI, until her marriage on January 2, 1935 to Fred Wyssbrod in Freeport, IL, when they moved to New York City for two years. They returned to southwest Wisconsin in 1937 and settled in Shullsburg in December of 1965. Mildred worked at Oaktron Industries and Swiss Colony in Monroe, WI for a number of years.
Mildred is survived by three children: Carol (John J.) O'Neill of Asbury, IA, Shirley (Kenneth) Everson of Fort Wayne, IN, and Fred W. (Susan) Wyssbrod of Albany, WI; seven grandchildren: Sheri (Joe) Koos, John (Susan) O'Neill, Christine (Mark) Ruden, Kelly (Charles) Perrin, Brenda Everson, Lisa (James) Edwards, and Craig Wyssbrod; 13 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 5, 1987; two brothers: Elmer and Melvin Kuhl; and one sister: Vida Bergman.
Mildred was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing, crafts, and canning. Mildred will always be remembered for her loving kindness, for instilling her values of honesty and hard work, helping others and caring for her family. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 10, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home 235 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg with Rev. Kevin Cernek of Martintown Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg.
