Mildred Arlene Holcomb Bartelt, age 88, of Monroe died Friday, January 21, 2011, at St. Clare Friedensheim Assisted Living facility in Monroe. She was born October 7, 1922, in Woodford, WI the daughter of Ole A. and Elizabeth (Lynn) Hovde.

Mildred married Luverne Holcomb on December 19, 1940 at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and later married Leo Bartelt in April 1979 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, where she was a member.

She is survived by her sons, Dean (Cindy) Holcomb of Claremont, CA, Larry (Deb) Holcomb of Monroe, WI, Jeffrey (Missy) Holcomb of Verona, WI, & Randy Holcomb of Madison, WI; daughters, Carolynn (Robin) Berg of Darlington, WI, Donna (Steve) Hays of Milton, WI, Mary Rose (Steve) Scott of Merrimac, WI, & Kandace Tochterman of Madison, WI; step-children, Kay (John) Tuescher, Gayle (Kathleen) Bartelt, & Jim Bartelt all of Monroe, WI; 22 Grandchildren; and 15 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents; Husbands; sister, Mavis Priewe; son-in-law, Michael Tochterman; and step-son, Gene Bartelt.

Mildred was born, raised, and lived in or around Monroe, WI her entire life. She attended Loveland country school and graduated from Monroe High School in 1940. She had a variety of vocations throughout her life including: Waitressing at the Monroe Country Club and the Swiss Wheel, Retail Clerk at McLellans department store and worked in Housekeeping at Monroe Clinic Hospital where she retired. Following her retirement Mildred continued on as a volunteer for the clinic. Mildred (known as Millie by most) loved spending time with her family and had a passion for sewing, reading, puzzles, and sharing great jokes and stories. She will be remembered for her special love of her family, her grace, wisdom, strength, and sense of humor that will live on through her children and many grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, with Rev. John Tabaka officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the church.

A private family committal service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, WI at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of St. Clare Friedensheim and Monroe Clinic Hospice.

A memorial fund has been established in Mildred's name.
