BRODHEAD - Mary B. Smith, age 70, of Brodhead, formerly of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Edgerton Hospital. She was born on October 20, 1938 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Alvin and Helen (Douglas) Anderson. She married Edwin C. Smith on February 28, 1959 in Brodhead.
Mary graduated from Brodhead High School and was a secretary in the Brodhead area for many years and also for Bruni-Miller of Monroe. She also drove a school bus for many years. Mary was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Brodhead, and loved music, reading, crocheting, and watching the Packers.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, a daughter, Margie (Gordon) Rufer, Monroe, three grandchildren, Amanda, Carrie, Cody, a great-grandson, Louis, and her sister-in-law, Arlene Strong, Upland, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Milton Strong.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, with Rev. R. Tiffany Bates officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
