James "Jimmy O" A. Osterberger, 61, of Freeport died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born July 2, 1952 in Freeport he was the son of Alvin and Mae (Boyle) Osterberger. James was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for more than 35 years at Honeywell in Freeport. On September 29, 2001 he and Cathy Homan were united in marriage at Bethel United Methodist Church of Afolkey. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church and was a member of Freeport Eagles Aerie 679 and the Brush Creek Golf Club. Jim had a great love for his granddaughters; he also enjoyed the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, golfing and fishing. Surviving are his wife Cathy of Freeport, son Jason (Amber) Osterberger of Watertown, WI; two granddaughters Arieana and Ava; four sisters and two brothers Patricia VanHeeren of Lena, Sylvia Arner of Beloit, WI, Mary (Ken) Howard of Freeport, Robert (Cathy) Osterberger of Cedarville, John (Sherri) Osterberger of Freeport, Marcia (Robert) Edler of Bella Vista, AR; many nieces, nephews and close friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers-in-law Jim VanHeeren and Gene Arner. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Dakota, cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church of Afolkey with Reverend CheonEui Oh officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Afolkey Cemetery.
