BRODHEAD - Gene E. Coplien, age 74, of Brodhead, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009, following an extended illness. He was born in Sylvester Township, Green County, WI on May 25, 1935, the son of Earl and Beatrice (Pinnow) Coplien. He married Juanita Willison on July 31, 1954 in Monroe.

Gene had worked for 30 years at Fairbanks and Morse, Beloit, WI. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, riding Harley Davidsons and watching his grand and great-grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, Brodhead; four sons, Gene (Bonnie) Coplien, Mike Coplien, Britt (Maria) Coplien, all of Brodhead, Mark Coplien (Trever Hawley), Portage, WI; two daughters, Joanna (James) Olsen, Penny (Bob) Franke, both of Brodhead; two sisters, Phyllis (Tom) Nordyke, Middleton, WI, Dorothy (Alvin) Wire, Winslow, IL; four brothers, Roland (Nancy) Coplien, Juda, Truman (Helen) Coplien, AZ, Richard (Carol) Coplien, Brodhead, Kurt (Jane) Coplien, Monroe; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott, a grandson, Adam Coplien, and great-grandson, Decon Eberly.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Brodhead, with Pastor Larry Froemming and Mr. Bob Franke officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. The D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, is assisting the family.
