Edward A. Grossen, age 80, of Monroe, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 26, 1931 in Jordan Township, the son of Emil and Emma (Dummermuth) Grossen. Ed was the youngest and last surviving of his 14 siblings. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1949. Ed served in the Army during the Korean war. He married Opal DeVoe on September 19, 1954 in Monroe. Ed owned and operated Grossen Excavating, landscaping, and snow removal; Ed loved his "loader". He retired in 2009. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose, lodge # 754. Ed enjoyed many vacations, he blessed his family with many "Family" vacations, He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed many card games with friends. He had many special people in his life and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Opal of 58 years, of Monroe, Sons: Donald (Jackie Duncan) Grossen of Madison, Dan Sperstad of Monroe, a daughter, Vicki (Jeff) McNett of Monroe; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Jennifer) McKeever, Michelle (David) Anspaugh, Halee McNett, and Kayla (Michael) Smiley; 4 great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Andrew McKeever, Isabella and Adriana Anspaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane McKeever; 8 brothers: Emil, Fred, Robert, George, William, John, Walter, and Howard Grossen; 5 sisters: Mary Voegeli, Emma Ritschard, Wilma Reinman, Doris Zimmerman, and Arlene DeVoe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Reverend William T. Mike Heath officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, A visitation will be held Friday, May 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Shriner Hager Gohlke funeral home, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Ed's name.
